Our
Story

In collaboration with Sugarhouse Violins in Salt Lake City, we identified the need for more equitable access to bowed string instruments as well as player and maker education.

From these conversations, the Singing Wood Institute 501(c)(3) emerged to enhance the health of the string community in and beyond Salt Lake City.

Our mission is to advance equitable access to high performace and increasingly sustainably built instruments, to provide [continuing education beyond standard lutherie training] OR [advanced education in lutherie and restoration techniques], and to cultivate educational outreach with local schools, colleges, and universities.
