Support the Future of Music & Lutherie

Our Mission

Through working daily with the bowed-strings community at Sugarhouse Violins, we found there was a great need emerging for equal opportunity and access to instruments education, and training.

We formed the Singing Wood Institute 501(c)(3) to meet these needs, by providing instrument access, lutherie training, and education outreach with local schools, colleges, and universities.

Getting my violin was one of the most special experiences! My violin is seriously a dream come true! From the beginning I loved everything about sugarhouse violins. Jordan is so nice, and answers all my questions and helps me know how to take care of my violin. I couldn’t be more grateful for such a lovely violin and such amazing people I get to learn from like Jordan!

A truly genuine violin shop. The luthiers at this shop have helped me in multiple areas of my violin journey, and I've never felt pressured at any point along the way. I've looked at purchasing instruments and bows, had work done on my violins, bow rehairs, and more. They've taken large chunks of their time to just listen and adjust my instruments and help me find the sound that fits me. Thank you all!

Our public school taught 6th grader broke a violin string a couple hours before planning on playing it at a baptism. Not only did we get the string but they taught my boy how to string a violin and gave him lots of tips. They were very patient and let my boy do the work and correct mistakes along the way.
